June 2025 Reading group

By

The next session of the Carantes reading group is meeting on Friday June 27th (i.e. next week) at 6pm Welsh time (GMT +1).

For the next pair of sessions we’re going to be discussing the complexities of race and ethnicity in the medieval period, and how that might influence and impact Celtic whiteness and the politics of anti-racism today.

Our readings this time are two open-access essays (contact us if you’re having any issues). The articles are:

Matthew H. Hammond, “Ethnicity and the Writing of Medieval Scottish History” (2006)

https://eprints.gla.ac.uk/2916/

Coral Lumbley, “Geoffrey of Monmouth and Race” (2020)

In solidarity, and see you soon!

Reading group organisers,
Rhys & Elisabeth
